Alleged jewelry thief turns herself in to authorities

An Alabama woman turned herself in to authorities Wednesday after allegedly stealing over $2,000 worth of jewelry from pawn shops, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said, 21-year-old Ashley Nicole Mullis of Chunchula, AL stole the jewelry while visiting a family member in Jackson County on July 23.

The jewelry was located at pawn shops in Jackson County and Mobile County in Alabama, Byrd said.

Mullis was charged with grand larceny and is being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center pending an initial appearance in county court.

If convicted of grand larceny, Mullis could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
